fancy orange
Remember my post last week? Of my lingering obsession with a lil splash of the color orange?
Well..
one of our wedding gifts got unpacked! A hand blown orange glass vase....from Tommy's little sister. Lovely! When I came home from work today, Tommy had sunflowers sitting in it on the windowsill.
Fancy that.

smoky nights
cute lil bbq cookies...via Etsy's BeesKneesCreative
Tommy and I cooked for the first time in our new lil apartment last night. We were all excited! Cooked up a couple onion burgers on our new wedding gift Emeril stove-top griddle/grill (there aren't any outdoor grills at our apartment complex.) We also busted out our new stainless pro-clad pots & pans wedding gift for the first time to make some heavenly side dishes.
We were being cutesy in the kitchen with each other...preparing our FIRST meal together in our brand new apartment, with our brand new wedding kitchenry, in our new city. It felt nice.
Until the smoke detectors sirens went off. Surely it wasn't our cooking....there wasn't a whole lot of smoke here. Must be a neighbor. We continued with our meal prep. Then we heard the fire department sirens outside. Five seconds later our small kitchen is full of men in uniform.
We might not cook again. Ever.

orange
I'm sort of all in love with a pop of orange lately.
I want a little something in this shade.
Something old...
made hip and cool again with sweet citrus paint.
I'll re-vamp something myself...
something I find on the side of the road.
That could be fun.

$1 monopoly game
We find ourselves as newbie New Yorkers...with nothing to sit on, nothing to eat off of, no place but suitcases to put our clothes. It's odd to be in this limbo. It's odd, but so wonderful to be in this new exciting place!!
We spent the weekend driving in new neighborhoods, desperate for a sweet yard sale or two. Nada. We happened upon a couple....but they were busts. I did walk away with a $1 Monopoly game still in the plastic. My win for the weekend.
On our way to visit family in a nearby state for Father's Day, we stopped off the highway to experience Ikea. I've never owned anything from Ikea....though their modern designs are rather appealing...and their prices promise to leave money in the bank. We might buy a bookcase or two from them. Any thoughts? Will it last? Will my Monopoly game last longer?

m.i.a.
I've been wedding project queen these last couple weeks. And our house is slowly but surly packing away into cardboard boxes that get piled up in the corners of every room.
I'm getting excited to have my husband all to myself...as we are moving to a place where we don't know a soul. I try to think positive about this, because the thought of moving away from my family makes my eyes leak.
So I think about decorating our new place. I can't wait to create an "our home."
I'm thinking this pillow is too cute for words. We had birds on our wedding invitation. I wonder if every time I see birds I will think of us. Enter to win a gift cert at August & After to win this!!

if i had $50
It's drawing near...our move to New York. I'm getting excited, obviously, but the reality of it is starting to set in and it's making me a little on the uneasy side. We have decided not to "move" our furniture...it would cost way more than any of our furniture is worth...we live among sweet garage sale finds and great old hand-me-down pieces. Plus, we don't have towing capabilities on our lil cars. So when we move, we'll have our inflatable mattress (which actually needs replacing as we recently found out it has a leak!) and our clothes and books and whatever goodies our wedding blesses us with!
Sparse.
So then I started having a lil anxiety about this "choice" of ours. We won't even have a lamp. Or a TV. Or a freaking chair to sit in! My friend Jesselyn is hosting a $50 giveaway to CSN on her blog. I'm crossing my fingers that I win so I can replace our air mattress....or buy that pretty lamp. Hummmm.

tucson blossoms
The desert is unusual..it's not cozy and inviting like other parts of our country. It's thorn covered...dirty...dusty...with deadly spiders and snakes burrowing all over the place. But plenty of fuzzy jackrabbits too. Oh...and quails and roadrunners...I love a fast roadrunner. I hear the coyotes outside at night. Yes...I suppose some might think it's scary...but it can be colorful and beautiful. It's a unique place, the southwest. The sun is bright, the nights are warm...and it is home.
These are the blooms in my "backyard."
*note: I'm going to take the next few weeks off from blogging (though it pains me to do so). I really need to focus on my last rotation in the emergency department - lots and lots of research at night!! Next time I write I won't be living in Tucson anymore.
delicate soles
I wear a lot of flats. Well, actually I don't own lots...I just wear the couple pairs I have a lot. High heels kill me...though they give me quite a nice swagger. I'm partial to the shoes that keep me grounded and casual. Except these are kinda shiny...and flirty...and fun. Sign up to win a pair at A Chocolate Lover's Confessions!

bookshelves
Don't remember where I saved this file from.
Regardless....I think Tommy and I need this.
We could probably fill it up today...
but for now it will remain on our "someday list."
Isn't it divine to love books so much you want to surround yourself with them?
I love that my lover is a reader.
You read anything stimulating lately?

yellow weeds
These weeds are suuuper small. Smaller than a pencil's eraser. And they are so very pretty. I was getting such bizarre looks as I was crouching on the gravel to get a closer look. They are just so sweet..and vibrant...yet almost hidden because of their size. I didn't overlook them. A small sort of accomplishment I suppose. I hope I live my whole life never overlooking things like tiny flowers growing in peculiar places.
Tucson's desert is spectacular. The prettiest in the whole state. I could live here. I really could. There are so many wildflowers in bloom right now. Pink and orange and green and yellow.
Yellow flowers. They seriously just mystify me. I'm awfully glad I'll be carrying yellow blooms at my wedding - anything else just wouldn't feel right. Not for me, anyway.
