catskills

My time in Mass ended yesterday - with rain. I was sad to leave...I enjoyed my time there so much, but new adventures are right around the corner. Spent today at a small community hospital in upstate New York. One word: amazing. Amazing! Now I want to live here. Perhaps its because the leaves are starting to turn and it's casting a magical spell over my soul. Don't know what it is, I just feel like there is a lot for me to explore here.

Tomorrow I'm off to Delaware. Never been there, pretty excited!

many mums

While driving from Massachusetts to Rhode Island this weekend I noticed fields of chrysanthemums on the side of the road. I have never in my life seen such a display! I jumped out of the car and ran up to the flowers, as close as I could get (which was still a few feet away, as there was a large water filled stream separating us.)

I only had my cell phone to capture it all. I need a camera.

ferny affection

Ferns - by Groundwork (a delightful Etsy shop)

This beyond beautiful print has been saved in my FAVORITES section on Etsy for months. Literally, months. It's sold out now, which is the hugest bummer I can imagine (at the moment) and I'm kicking myself in the shins for missing the op to own it.

I really need to start jumping at these things. Or maybe I should really wait until I am employed to make fun purchases. Hummm...

I tell you what - even though this print is sold out, I will never delete it from my "favorites" tab. Ever.

Sometimes I just wish I could dress myself and look this amazing. (Hummm...being a size 0 probably helps). Regardless, these lil handmade flowers are just to die for...by Emersonmade.

childhood

via Bloom, Grow, Love

Remember the magical light of childhood? Today, I saw some little girls playing in their front yard. I was surprised that it made me sad. I miss that. I miss playing with my sisters in the lush grass of our Grammie's house...or in our backyard pool...or with our American Girl dolls. I miss being read to every night by my mom.

Sometimes I think about it and it shocks me that I'm not a kid anymore.

soup food

It's cold in New England these days and I'm still new in town. Not quite use to it. It's still around 100 degrees back home. All I want to do is eat warm soup...put on my new soft sweat pants...and hide under a pile of warm blankets. Instead, I spent this glorious weekend with my future family and ate many bowls of homemade soup. It was perfect.

Daisy Chain linked up some yummy soup recipes.

off switch *contest*

I know I've been posting a few extra contests than usual - but people have been giving away some really fun loot. How could I pass that up?

Check out this new lil Etsy stationary shop, Off Switch. I'm SUCH a ridiculous sucker for pretty paper designs - you should see the collection I brought across the country with me so I could send fun cards to people back home :-)

Go enter at Down and Out Chic.

a tale of diamond earrings

When I was in high school and my kid sister was about to turn 16, my baby sister (who was 12 at the time) and I wanted to get her something knock-your-socks-off rad. We decided that diamond earrings would be the perfect Sweet Sixteen gift! We saved and saved! Finally, we went to the jeweler down the street and picked out the most sparkly pair we could afford (1/4 carat thank-you-very-much!).

She was shocked! And LOVED them. Baby sis and I were very proud of ourselves.

One month later it was my 18th birthday. Wouldn't you know that my little sisters gave ME a set of diamond earrings? Apparently, the two of them bought MY earrings long before we bought earrings for my sis.

This year...my baby sister turned 21. We totally got her diamond earrings. Finally.

I'm missing my little sisters right about now.

book covers

I'm clearly on a "book" kick. I think I miss mine and am having withdrawals living so far away from all the comforting tales resting on my bookshelves back home.

Would you believe me if I told you that I've always wanted to wrap my books in Kraft paper and write the titles in pretty pretty handwriting? Well. It's no lie. I saw this picture and my former fascination has been reinstated.

Once I even purchased a huge roll of it and couldn't really figure out how to conquer the quest...so I wrapped Christmas presents in it instead. I think bookshelves full of matching books would be so nice to look at. Found at Elizabeth Anne Designs.

heavenly hardbacks

Someday, I want to own all of the prettiest books.
To read over and over (oh gawd - like Jane Austen's pieces!)
I would love to look over and gaze at these lovely lil things on my bookshelf.
I would just love these.

gray's

I'm currently a med student. On a month-long externship outside of Boston, Mass. I'm living with a 1st year resident who is quite literally "the bomb." After of day of salvaging limbs, dealing with diabetics, and scrubbing loads of rad surgery, we wind down by watching a couple of episodes of Grey's Anatomy. I'm addicted.

Oh. And she has Tivo. I'm addicted to that now too.

boston's best

Great print! - buy it here

I'm spending the weekend with a friend in Boston - she lives in what I call, "neighboorhood amazing" as it's down the street from Harvard Yard and all the rad things to do. This will be good for me, as I'm starting to get a little homesick and a rainy weekend spent in my apartment would have included too many fatty foods and sappy love movies on the tube.

There are a bunch of art and culture festivals happening in the city today - and that makes me excited! My "too see" list is vacant - we'll see what happens - no plans sometime make the greatest adventures!

*Note...I do plan on eating ONE slice of Boston Cream Pie. It's yum. If you are bored this weekend try this recipe for Boston Cream Pie to make at home (it looks divine!)

fiesta fiesta!

photo via here

I've spent more time than I will EVER admit over deciding what place setting to "register" for. I had made up my mind, long ago, that one set of durable classic white dishes was what I sought for my dinner table. And yet I've battled over which "white set" to select. Their differences are so slight that I'm sure the average person would think they were the same. Who knows why I'm so obsessed with this detail.

Regardless...then, after finally selecting the set with the tiny white rim of embellishment, a detail so slight you kinda have to squint to see it at all, I see explosions of color like this.

And I am left feeling so incredibly, ridiculously boring with my bright whites.

I really do love Fiesta ware. It really is a party! I like parties.

baby shiloh

One of my very best friends (in the whole entire world) had her baby on Friday. A new baby girl. A precious baby girl. When I got the message while at the hospital I could not stop smiling! She is one of my first best friends to have a baby...and it feels so surreal that she is now a mother!

I feel so proud. Is that strange? It's true...she's my bestie...and I love her new little Shiloh as much as I love her mommy.

Today I got to hold her. It was amazing. Her tiny little fingers and soft ginger hair...she's a lil angel.

I'm hope I'm blessed to be a mommy someday.

frolic

here.
I sometimes frolic when I'm outside and the nature surrounding me is particularly spectacular. Or when the air just feels really good. The urge swells up in me and I'll leap...skip...hop.

I really do.

This is how I feel today - and not just because it's the beginning of a lovely three day weekend. I am absolutely smitten with this externship I am in right now...as in, I LOVE it. As in, I want to MOVE here and be a PART of it. As in, this is my dream. The Residents are phenomenal. The Attending Physicians are wonderful, and challenging, and demanding, and encouraging. I would become a great doctor here.

I love my life.
