 I have never been one to keep a hand written journal.  I'm fairly confident that I never will (I do keep a blog...obviously...and not even very well!).  These are simply gorgeous personalized journals...and a steal at $16 a piece!  From Minted.com.

 

oh emma

I've been attempting to read Emma....for about a month now.  I bought this beautiful old hardback copy at my favorite used bookstore in Phoenix before we moved.  It's red and turquoise...with gold foil lettering on the binding.  It's a very pretty lil book.

Being the Austin fan that I think I am...I'm surprised I can't get into it.  I think Emma's a snotty nit wit.  I tend to want to love the main characters I read about...and she annoys the hell outta me.

To make this a little more ridiculous...I've seen the movie staring Gwenyth Paltrow.  Umm...I own the movie in fact. But I haven't seen it in so long, I can't quite recall anything.

Does it get better?  Or should I just keep it on the bookshelf to admire the pretty colors?

I have crap tons of medical text books.  They have bizarre covers...less than pretty...and a slew of random colors.  I'd love to do this to harmonize the shelf.  

Then again...random colors are sorta cool too.  Dunno.

Saw this on one of my fave blogs today...was so moved by it's simple song and lovely prose I desperately needed to share it, catalog it, and keep it where I can always find it. Here...safe in my collection of pretty lil nothings.

From Tommy...this one gave me goosebumps.

I bought a set of magnetic poetry for Valentine's day of 2009...but never even opened the box until we moved to NY this summer.  This turned out to be the best thing EVER!

While I'm out at the hospital all day (umm...and all night), Tommy will compose sweet sweet messages and poems for me to come home to (or wake up to.)   Sometimes I'll start a new one, and when I come home, he will have finished it in the most beautiful way.

I take pictures of them.  They are so lovely...and make my heart pitter patter for him only.

We love books. I love our own growing collection. When we move away from Arizona, it will be sad to leave all of our bookshelves behind....so this windowsill display is rather spectacular. Via Darling Dexter.

Craziest literary experience today. We got a phone call from some friends telling us there was a massive book sale to benefit the Phoenix library system. We figured we'd check it out and stock Tommy's school bookshelves with some classics. I was anticipating a morning of digging through old cardboard boxes up to my elbows in books.

However, the warehouse was a WAREHOUSE of monstrous proportions. It was a cataloged, organized, and alphabetized. There was no digging....only grabbing and balancing the reads in our arms.

It was book-heaven. We walked away with over 60 books (and 2 vintage maps!) for less than $35. And it was so wonderful to hold some of those stories in my hands...tales I haven't read since high school...I was smiling the whole time...it was like spending time with old friends.

I went and saw New Moon with my future sister in law (who is the cooloest 17 year I know). And now I'm completely obsessed with the whole Twilight series thing. And I have to read all of the gazillions books 7 times (like she did). Just what I need. A new distraction. With 700 pages each.

*note: I did call my fiance and told him that I am in love with a warewolf. He told me that he would buy P90x tomorrow. What a trooper.

I'm clearly on a "book" kick. I think I miss mine and am having withdrawals living so far away from all the comforting tales resting on my bookshelves back home.

Would you believe me if I told you that I've always wanted to wrap my books in Kraft paper and write the titles in pretty pretty handwriting? Well. It's no lie. I saw this picture and my former fascination has been reinstated.

Once I even purchased a huge roll of it and couldn't really figure out how to conquer the quest...so I wrapped Christmas presents in it instead. I think bookshelves full of matching books would be so nice to look at. Found at Elizabeth Anne Designs.

angels & demons

Bernini's Angel

Cannot cannot cannot wait to see Angels & Demons (hopefully today!). One of my favorite reads of all time...as a Catholic, an Art Historian, and a history-buff this book had it all for me! Though I didn't think the movie, The DaVinci Code was anywhere close to being as good as the book was, I don't anticipate Angels & Demons being a better flick than read. But, that's OK, that's normally how I feel about movies made from books.

I think mostly I'm excited about seeing all that glorious art on the big screen!!

I purchased the book, To My Sweetheart by Louis Cannizzaro, at the Scottsdale Museum of Art the day before Valentine's day.

I. Fell. In. Love.

This artist/poet is spectacular. I read my lil book 4 or 5 times that night...pretty sure a tear or two fell...and I tried to order all of his other books online (had a hard time with that and still don't have them). I will forever be enthralled by his lovely visions and simple prose. I hope you enjoy it too. See some selections in his online gallery here.


This reminds me of the first summer My Guy and I spent together. It was in Flagstaff. We lived in a tiny studio dorm room (not enough space to do sit ups, no kitchen, questionable bathroom.) We were broke as hell...summer jobs weren't paying out the dough we would have liked. No money for fancy Friday nights. It was, however, full of morning hikes and free afternoon golf. Our evenings were spent attending the community movies on the square, happy hour at the Boardwalk, or playing tennis under the campus flood lights. God. That was a great summer.



I miss My Guy a lot right now. I wish he was here to explore the northwest with me.
